What is this indicator?
The number of 2013 graduating seniors at Santa Monica High School and Olympic High School who met all UC/CSU requirements was divided by the total number of 2013 graduating seniors from Santa Monica and Olympic High Schools. This data comes from the City of Santa Monica’s Youth Wellbeing Report Card which is produced by the Santa Monica Cradle to Career (smC2C) Initiative.
Why is it important?
These are the minimum requirements needed to attend a four CSU/UC University. Completion of these requirements are necessary to apply to a UC or CSU and this is a predictor of academic and later college success.
Providing guidance and support for students helps them navigate the often-complicated and overwhelming college admissions process. It is particularly important for schools to offer support for lower-income students who might not otherwise have access to the resources or guidance available to students from higher-income households. This helps ensure that all students, regardless of financial background, have equal opportunities to college admissions.
